Protect Worker's Rights to Organize
How would you feel if a person committed murder and their only penalty was to paint on the inside wall of their house, for a period of one year, that they would cease and desist? Doesn’t seem like much of a penalty for violating the law does it; but that is exactly what happens when employers violate workers rights during Union organizing drives.
Statistics show even though it is clearly illegal, one quarter of employers facing an organizing drive has been found to fire at least one worker who supports a union. In fact, if you are an active Union organizer you have a one-in-five chance of being terminated, and currently the laws are so weak that many employers resort to spying, threats, intimidation, harassment and a host of other illegal activities with impunity.
The Employee Free Choice would impose real penalties on both employers and union organizers for illegal behavior. It would give the employees, not the employers the choice of how their election should be conducted and would create a true atmosphere of free will in the workplace. Because no worker should have to make a decision after being browbeaten by a supervisor to oppose the union or being told they may lose their job and livelihood if workers vote for the union.
That is not free choice. Please contact your Senator and Congressman and ask them to co-sponsor “The Employee Free Choice Act”.
