Tentative Agreement Reached

We reached a tentative agreement at 11:52.

No agreement yet

It's 10:40PM and we are waiting on the Company to come back with a package we can accept.

The Final Day

We met this morning and discussed the remaining general language proposals, and so now its down to the meat and potato issues. Alot of work remains to be done before we get a tentative agreement. We will be meeting back again at 2:00 PM. Its on like donkey kong. Keep up the solidarity.

A media black-out remains until midnight tonight, so we can't post too much here since anybody (including the media) can read this page. We will be posting the status of negotiations as we near the deadline.

Negotiations going on through the weekend

We are meeting with the Company today. There has been movement from both sides over the last couple of days and hopefully we will come to a agreement by the end of the day, Sunday.

Just Practicing Picket

Just Practicing Picket

On May 7, 2010 some members took part in a "just practicing" informational picket in response to the Company's proposed changes.

16 Days Left

There are 16 days left before the expiration of the new agreement and it looks like its going to be a long 16 days. There has not been any really meaningful movement at the table and the Company has yet to modify or withdrawl any of their proposals. They continue to ignore a majority of your proposals that you took the time to write on the Union's questionaire.

The Union is commited to getting a fair and equitable agreement for all of our members and will do whatever it takes to accomplish that task. We will continue to supply information to the Contract Action Team Members, so take the time to talk to them when you get opportunity to do so.

Chief Operating Officer Jim McMasters retirees

Effective June 30th of this year Jim McMaster will be retireing from his post as Chief Operating Officer and the Company that he has been with for the past 30 years. Reports from the Rubber Plastics News states that during his tenure at Yokohama Tire Corporation the company grew from a $30 Million company to nearly a $1billion company.

In the same article Jim McMaster stated that, "when I look back, my proudest achievment at Yokohama was the aquisition and expansion of our Salem, Va facility in 1989. . .the flexible architecture of the plant lets us build an array of types and sizes of tires, which adds to YTC's competitiveness in the North American marketplace.
